Valley Crossing Excercise

So This is one more wonderful exercise that was conducted in the last week which was 'Valley Crossing'.

Problem Statement : 3 members have to cross a valley with a long pole in their hands and then there is a valley which is ''wider than 1 step but lesser than 2 steps'', and the safety of each member is of prime importance.

Vision- To carry out the task efficiently with the highest standard of quality with utmost safety.
Mission- To portray and implement  co-ordination and teamwork at every step durinf the exercise.

Standard Operating Procedure(SOP)-So as mentioned earlier that the gap between the edges is less than 2 steps this exercise is definitely by applying some co-ordination and common sense.
There are some objectives which are needed to be achieved during this exercise and are as follows :
1) mitigate the risk and ensure safety of all the members.
2) All members should have equal workload with equal risk.
3) Reduce the pain equally.
4) Load should be equally distributed sequentially.

The 9 step process is carried out in the following manner : 1)The first member has to take half step in the valley and the in the  next step 2) he is completely in the air load is balanced by the rest 2 members which are on the land so the risk bearing for him 3) he would step on the other side of the gap,4) simultaneously while the middle member is  half step in the gap and 5) then totally in the air while his weight is balanced by the 2 members on the either side of the gap who are firmly placed on the land(so again the risk factor is one and a half) , 6) now in the next step where the middle member is on the other side of the gap, the 7)last member has one  step in the gap and and the other is on the land on the left side of the gap and in the 8) next step he is completely in the air and his weight is balanced by the first 2 members and the risk bearing factor is again one and a half 9) and they finally cross the valley.

So the following are the observations that we made by applying simple concept and co-ordination.

1) The first and foremost thing of importance is Teamwork in which co-ordination is the key to any task.
2) Instantaneous communication (feedback)plays a crucial role in any task which has teamwork associated with it.
3) Interdependency is of prime importance and trust is the factor which binds all the 3 members together.
4) The risk associated with every member is distributed equally(the factor of risk was one and a half for all the three).
5) Safety is not compromised of any member at any point in this whole exercise.
6) The work here is similar but not same, i.e equivalent in terms of total effort.
7) This exercise cannot be applied on less than 3 members.
8) Motivation by managers plays a very crucial role to get the things done and the confidence level of the member is boosted significantly which encourages them to carry out the task with ease and that's where managers leapfrog to the level of being Leaders.

So even with the such stringent rules, we are capable of implementing this exercise with a homogenous mix of co-ordination, effective communication, risk distribution, interdependency and the synergies of all the 3 member is channelized to achieve the task skillfully and with ease to make them feel as if it was a ''Cakewalk''.
